County Leitrim, Ireland
Accommodation
County
Leitrim comes from the Irish word 'Liathdroim' - the grey
hillridge. In the past many of Leitrim's hills were coal and
iron ore mines because of the large deposits of minerals
from the river Shannon. Leitrim is a mainly inland county
with only two miles of coastline. River cruising is a very
popular activity in the area and Carrick-on-Shannon is one
of the most developed centres on the River Shannon for
hiring cruisers for long or short term periods.
